Barton & Loguidice was retained by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Management Authority to design the Ava Regional Landfill Facility, including the site development, roadways, and building facilities. The building facilities included the engineering design of an administrative office building connected to a maintenance garage, cold storage garage buildings, salt storage barn, main leachate pump station, leachate load-out facility, weigh scales, and vehicle/equipment fueling system. The building facilities included several types of designs for each structure. These included masonry-wood structures, steel framed metal sided structures, cast-in-place concrete structures, and a wooden pole barn type structure. For each facility, B&L provided the engineering design of the architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems as were required for each type structure and usage. These systems included structural systems and supports, HVAC systems, bathroom and locker room facilities, plumbing systems, lighting, and power distribution systems.
Included in the facilities portion of the project was the design of a multi-fuel fleet fueling system. The fueling system incorporated two aboveground 5,000 gallon diesel storage tanks, one high speed (22 gpm) and one super speed (50 gpm) diesel fuel dispensers, fleet fueling management control system, leak detection and fuel monitoring systems, and spill containment and countermeasure control for the regulatory compliant collection and management of stormwater at the fueling facility area.
