Etna Lane Bridge over Fall Creek

What was the Challenge?

This project replaced a 15-ton posted and red-flagged bridge with a 138-foot long, galvanized steel girder with integral abutment structure.

How did Barton & Loguidice provide a solution?

B&L’s services for this federally funded locally administered project included traditional preliminary and final design efforts as well as detailed road alignment and detour analyses, public engagement during the COVID pandemic, and right-of-way acquisitions in preparation for the construction phase where we then provided construction oversight. The bridge was situated adjacent to a T-intersection with a post office and church opposite the bridge, and the public wanted to maintain both vehicular and pedestrian access to these destinations.

Why was the project a success?

The existing bridge type and construction activities required closing the bridge completely with no thru traffic permitted through the intersection; a temporary pedestrian bridge was installed over Fall Creek and a temporary access road was created through the post office lawn to accommodate these requests.
