Port Chester High School – New Synthetic Turf Field and Track Improvements

What was the Challenge?

Port Chester High School required upgrades to their outdoor sports complex. They wanted to reconstruct the existing six-lane all-weather track and build an 89,100 SF synthetic turf field. Relocating the field event area was also a necessity, so different events could occur more efficiently and at the same time. Additional parking was requested on site to accommodate fans and athletes.

How did Barton & Loguidice provide a solution?

B&L worked with Fuller and D’Angelo, P.C., Architects and Planners to design the project. The preexisting natural grass field was transformed into a synthetic turf field using alternative Environfill infill, to provide the school’s athletes and users excellent playability. Some additional site enhancements were designed by B&L, including paved parking areas and pedestrian walkways.

Why was the project a success?

This facility is the anchor of the front vista for this historic school complex. The blue track and other motifs surrounding the synthetic turf field match the school colors and exudes spirit. Although the track remained in the same location, events such as discus and shot put were relocated to work in harmony with our improvements. Various track and field events can now happen simultaneously.
