Chenango County Landfill Expansion
What was the challenge?
B&L has been assisting the County with design and construction oversight of multiple landfill cell expansions, closures, leachate storage facilities, a pump station, maintenance buildings, and stormwater infrastructure since the late nineties. In 2021, Chenango County again looked to B&L to complete the design and construction oversight for its Cell No. 5 expansion to allow for continued cost-effective municipal solid waste disposal for the County’s residents.
How did Barton & Loguidice provide a solution?
B&L prepared the final design and bid documents for the 3.7-acre liner expansion, which included a state-of-the-art double composite landfill liner system and leachate removal designs in compliance with the newest 6 NYCRR Part 363 regulations. B&L also provided construction phase services to assist the County in implementing and certifying the project.
Why was the project a success?
The project was completed on time and well within the County’s planned budget with no surprises. The final liner system performance testing yielded exceptional results and will provide the County with secure disposal capacity for several years.
