Copenhagen Athletic Fields

What was the Challenge?

The Copenhagen Central School District has one school building. In conjunction with building improvements, the district wanted a new 160,000 SF synthetic turf field. This athletic field improvements project included the design and construction of a synthetic turf field for soccer, baseball, and softball. The layout needed to allow for baseball and softball games to be played simultaneously.

How did Barton & Loguidice provide a solution?

B&L worked closely with the School’s Superintendent, Athletic Director, and coaches to ensure that all of their needs were met and included in the final design. Associated field amenities and improvements included new precast concrete dugouts for both the baseball and softball teams, new sports lighting, new permanent spectator seating for 400 people built into the existing hillside, and a new press box.

Why was the project a success?

Together with the construction manager, B&L ensured the project was completed on time and within a tight budget. Associated stormwater management practices were designed to handle all site improvements, including a retention pond area and a smaller rain garden. In addition to the new synthetic turf field and associated amenities, fans now enjoy new sports lighting and spectator seating, as well as improved pedestrian and vehicular access.
